The Alarming Impact of Second-Hand Drinking

We should never forget that second hand drinking can have harmful effects, rather than focussing solely on the impact of alcohol on the drinker themselves.

In addition to the drink drivers, mothers who drink during pregnancy resulting in Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and people who start fights when they are drunk, there are other examples of second-hand drinking which are just as harmful.

One example, often ignored, is the verbal abuse and harassment which is a form of second-hand drinking harm and this is an example only now being explored by researchers.

A recent study in Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, found that one in five Americans experience second-hand drinking damage each year, read why the figure may actually be higher in Australia here.
