St Kilda Traders Resist Alcohol Ban following Violence

St Kilda’s become synonymous with drunkenness and bad behaviour especially over the holidays as scores of revellers make their way to the area. That led to police calling for a foreshore alcohol ban, in the hopes that it would prevent attacks like one that happened a couple of weeks ago.

Local traders have rejected the call for bans while residents have welcomed them.

Recently 15 youths attacked a young chef and another man in St Kilda, bashing the man with a pole and glassing him with a champagne bottle. This was the last straw for police who called for a full alcohol ban to be reintroduced.

The violent incident also caused traffic to be blocked and escalated as other kitchen staff got involved.
