Despite the re-introduction of the banned drinker register in the Northern Territory, the number of alcohol related assaults has gone up.

Under the laws people in the NT have to scan their IDs at bottle shops and now more than 2500 people have been banned from buying alcohol under the Banned Drinker Register which was reinstated last September.

However the latest crime stats show that alcohol related assaults have actually increased 27 per cent during the first 3 months of the Banned Drinker Register, compared with the same time the previous year.
