Although binge drinking is never a good idea, beer consumed in moderation can be good for you.
Beer presents a few benefits to human health that include:
- Improvement in bone health because beer is rich in silicon which improves bone density and helps fight bone diseases such as osteoporosis. This may be particularly beneficial to post-menopausal women.
- Introduces iron to the diet. Especially dark beers are rich in iron which is an essential nutrient needed for distribution of oxygen throughout the body.
- Promotes cardiovascular health by lowering the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and other heart diseases. Moderate drinking, scientists claim, promotes “good” cholesterol which lowers the risk of strokes and cardiovascular disease.
- Promotes Brain health and has been proven to reduce the risk of developing memory problems, Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.
Moderate drinking of beer has also been proven to promote good hair and skin. In hair beer promotes volume and shine die to the wheat proteins present and also make hair healthier while neutralising smell.
So next time you think downing a glass of your favourite beer is doing more harm than good, think again, you may actually be doing your body a favour.
