A digital union has been offered to hospitality employees with a membership costing just $9.99 a month.
Hospo Voice is a part of the United Voice union, hoping to attract young hospitality industry workers who wouldn’t necessarily be interested in a traditional union.
It offers workers a number of online tools such as pay-checking services, a record of their hours worked and a diary to document workplace incidents such as bullying or harassment. It also provides templates of letters for members including letters to send to employers who are underpaying them.
United Voice Victoria secretary Jess Walsh said this is Australia’s first digital union.
