According to the latest emma (Enhanced Media Metrics Australia) Alcoholic Beverages Trends & Insights Report, half of the Australians over the legal drinking age are drinking less now than ever before.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the industry- the report suggests that while drinking volume is down, spending is up.
In fact liquor sales revenue rose 1.5 per cent in 2015, due to the fact that people are choosing to spend more on a quality drink than focussing on quantity.
In my opinion this is a good thing. This indicates that the problematic binge drinking culture is declining. People aren’t just going out with the intention of getting drunk, they are choosing higher quality premium drinks which they can savour rather than down quickly which as we know is good for responsible drinking.
